It was moving slowly, so it was alive. Any ideas what it is?

Interesting photo. I’m curious to hear more about this critter; maybe you can ask some locals. My sister encountered a “gejigeji mushi” in Kyoto. I took her photo and showed it around to my bright Japanese friends. the third or fourth person pegged it.
Its a bristleowrm !
